Hillcrest Congregational Church, UCC is an active and generous, though aging, congregation with an average weekly attendance of 50 members and a dedicated lay leadership that is committed to revitalizing our beloved church. Our immediate priorities are to nurture new leadership from within the congregation and find creative and sustainable ways of inviting others from outside the congregation to join us in our journey, thus ensuring the message of Christ’s love continues and the future of Hillcrest remains strong.

Opening: Immediately through December 15, 2025.

Scope of Position: 20 hrs/wk (part-time exempt)

Compensation: Competitive Salary & Benefits, in accordance with NCNCUCC guidelines for Fair and Just Compensation.

Description of Duties

  • Provides leadership for Family Ministry, Youth Programming, and Spiritual Formation.

  • Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers, parents, and participants.

  • In coordination with the Senior Minister, music staff, and key volunteers, leads various aspects of worship, including administering the sacraments and preaching 3-4 times/year. 

  • Collaborates with the Senior Minister to provide pastoral care to members. 

  • Attends regular Youth Ministry meetings and partners with Council Members for Faith Formation, Care & Fellowship, and Outreach. 

  • Meets regularly with the Pastor-Parish Relations Team in support of healthy relationships.

  • Oversees close application of the Safe Church Policy.

  • In line with above emphases, carefully monitors budget lines and manages financial policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Graduate-level theological degree and ordained standing in the United Church of Christ, or ability to achieve it within 12 months.

  • Experience: Three years of educational instruction, volunteer management, and/or other experience working with people of a variety of ages in a church, school, or other environment.

Other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge and abilities:

  • Participation in a Christian community and appreciation for the ecumenical mainline Protestant theological and liturgical traditions.

  • Ability and willingness to model the mission of the Church in word and in deed on and off the job.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, and to manage work time effectively.

  • Ability to interact with people of all ages, showing an interest in and enthusiasm for church activities and volunteer roles.

  • Ability to communicate effectively face-to-face and via a variety of media.

  • Ability to respond to suggestions and complaints in an effective and appropriate fashion.

  • Knowledge of basic clerical skills. Ability to use basic office equipment, computer applications, and to organize records efficiently.

  • Ability to maintain confidential information reliably.

  • Skill in collaborating with church staff and lay leaders to support the mission of the church.

  • Problem-solving skills that result in a harmonious completion of responsibilities and that encourage cooperation and support among all who serve the church.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with persons of all ages, races, religious traditions, sexual orientations, and gender expressions and identities.
