What We Do
The Hillcrest Layette Program distributes more than 200 layettes each year to the neediest mothers and babies in Contra Costa County exclusively through County public health nurses and social workers.
In 2013, we received donations from more than 30 individuals and family groups, more than 25 outside organizations, and a host of anonymous donations.
The 2013 donations provided 264 layettes, each containing 55-65 essential and helpful clothing items for the babies’ first year of life.
Why We Do It
“We strive as a community of faith to create and enhance an atmosphere which seeks the welfare and happiness of others without expecting anything in return. To do this we nurture and respect all of God’s children.”
Among the ways Hillcrest shows its commitment to “nurture and respect all of God’s children” is through this program.

History Behind this Program
Hillcrest’s Layette Program has been providing layettes to the neediest babies in the area for over 50 years.
The program began when a church member accompanied a social worker to visit migrant workers in the Delta, saw a grandmother caring for a baby lying in a crate, and decided Hillcrest could do something to help.
In doing so, we learned that nurses needed clothing for low birth-weight babies, so we have added “preemie packets” to our list of needs and to our deliveries. And so, we continue to help.
