NOVEMBER 17, 2019 10:30 AM
The Butterfly Effect: Migration is Beautiful project will be presented and blessed at Hillcrest Church on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 10:30 am during worship as a joint effort of the Creekside Girl Scout Troop #33354 and Hillcrest Church youth and is supported by the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa.
Butterfly Effect: Migration is Beautiful is an art and activism project led by youth in the Bay Area. They are leading a movement to create a visual representation that will raise awareness about the 15,000 immigrant children who have been and are currently in US detention and to inspire our community to take action to end child detention permanently.
Working with the community to make butterflies out of recycled and upcycled materials, butterflies will be displayed on strings hanging from old bike wheels, and displayed in public institutions including libraries, hospitals, schools, and city halls to raise awareness of children in detention.
During church service on November 17th, the Girl Scouts and Hillcrest Church youth will be presenting their handmade butterflies in support of the immigrant children who remain in detention . Following the a Blessing of theButterflies and the Butterfly Recessional, they will hang the butterflies for community display on the church arbor fronting Gregory Lane.
